PROJECT OVERVIEW

REFORLEB: Building-up a participatory governance framework for the sustainable development of forests and rural territories in Lebanon

REFORLEB is a reforestation project led by the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) in partnership with the Municipalities of Deir el Ahmar and Ainata, and in collaboration with SEEDS-int. It aims at increasing forest cover and restoring forest socio-economic functions, in the framework of the “Agriculture and Rural Development Programme” (ARDP), funded by the EU through the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI), and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) on behalf of the Republic of Lebanon. It is in line with the 40 Million Forest Trees Programme, a national initiative led by the Lebanese Government, aiming to plant 40 Million forest trees on 70,000 ha of public land in the coming 20 years.

REFORLEB thrives to design, implement and monitor sustainable reforestation and afforestation activities as well as socioeconomic development initiatives, with and for local stakeholders.

REFORLEB is funded by the EU-ENPI programme with a budget of 399,168.11 € (80% EU co-financing) from 2014 to 2018, and is implemented in the two Lebanese villages of Deir el Ahmar and Ainata.
